Re: Tolkien in General
Yes, indeed! I wonder if that idea, a magic island, is one of those English root-myths that Tolkien was trying to uncover.
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Re: Tolkien in General

Absolutely Michka. All those tales have something in common and that's what makes a great story.
Merry I'd forgotten that book was coming out. And Lindariel thanks for the tidbits. It sounds quite interesting. I may have to pick it up.

If anyone is on facebook you may want to check out this nice Tolkien page. It's called Wonders of Middle-earth. You don't have to have a facebook account to view and read its' contents. There is art as well as facts and discussions.

Mais il est écrit qu'il faut s'inscrire à Facebook pour accéder aux images, et je n'ai pas du tout envie d'y être, dommage, je ne peux rien visionner

Here comes September 22, the birthday of our beloved Bagginses! What will you do to celebrate?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Happy, happy birthday to Bilbo and Frodo! May it snow food and rain drink at your Long-Expected Party in the Undying Lands!

I don't remember ever having read this story, but it seems like appropriate reading for Yuletime!

Book marked Merry.
Once it quiets down here I'll be reading this.
I hope you had a lovely holiday.

Re: Tolkien in General
Thanks, Philipa--back at ya! It snowed food (and gifts!) and rained drink here, as Bilbo would say! My youngest nephew works part time at a movie theater and managed to procure for me a giant standee/poster kind of thing for the first Hobbit movie: Gandalf standing by the front door of Bag End. Lovely present! Not sure what I will do with it or even if I'll be able to get it in my car and back to Iowa, but I love the thoughtfulness behind it.

Re: Tolkien in General
Just a reminder--not too late, I hope!--that today, January 3, is Professor Tolkien's birthday. There is a world-wide toast 'to the Professor' (with an appropriate beverage, of course) that we should all participate in!
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
