Re: Members' Art, Prose and Poetry
Are they the verses that begin with "I sit beside the fire and think . . ."?
Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

Re: Members' Art, Prose and Poetry

When you have a moment, be sure to visit Viggo-Works and check out the wonderful art exhibit organized by our very own Riv Res. Over 40 artists are participating, including several of our MeJ members, and it is a geniune pleasure to wander through the many beautiful and interesting works on display!

Thanks, Lindariel. I've been working my way through that--lots of fun!

Re: Members' Art, Prose and Poetry
I'm not an artist, but I've been working on a little Tolkien craft project for my house. My kitchen has sliding doors that look out over my backyard and the main view is of a stone wall by which I've planted my herb garden. I love growing herbs, cooking with them, and giving them away to my friends and neighbors. Some friends have free rein to harvest their own herbs from my yard whenever they wish.
Even before I had an herb garden, I grew very fond of the pottery made by a local potter and sold at fairs and markets nearby. I've bought a few of his plates and bowls, which are light gray in color and feature simple decorations of herbs and their flowers in blue. I've sort of decorated my kitchen in greens, grays and blues around these pieces.
So there's a bit of a blank space on the wall near my kitchen table which is begging for some art, and I've been working on something: the quote from the Ithilien chapter of LOTR describing all the herbs and other plants in Ithilien left over from when it was the garden of Gondor and featuring the line about 'disheveled dryad loveliness'. I love that line and it sometimes brings tears to my eyes, it's so beautiful! I'm not a calligrapher, but thanks to the power of word processing, I'm working with fonts on the computer. It will print on standard 11x17 paper on a color printer at school and I plan to finish it off by doing some simple drawings of herbs and their flowers.
I'm having a lot of fun with this project and it has helped to get me through a bitter winter, a gardener's bane!
I know we have some great Tolkien artists who are members here, but I wonder if any of the rest of us have done any simple Tolkien projects for their homes?

Eh!

Merry the project sounds delightful. Will you be sharing a photo of the finished product?
The only Tolkien inspired art I had worked on were mono prints from the Hobbit. I have no idea if I've ever shared them before. Maybe I should create a blog post and include them all (I think there were 3) in one post.Merry wrote:

That would be, as my students say, awesome!

all the days of your life.

and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

I remember seeing a couple of these before, Philipa. I like this style of woodcut with Tolkien--it fits, somehow. Love the dragon!
Thanks for sharing them here.
